The Canadian skeleton and bobsleigh teams let me tag along and shoot some behind the scenes stuff. I was amazed at how cramped for space the bobsleigh shop got when all of the two-man and four-man sleds were in and getting pre-race work done.

The CWHL game at Winsport was busy as well, with two remote cameras (including a strobed netcam.) Team Alberta only scored one goal on the net with the camera in it (none for Burlington as they were shut out) but I got lucky and got the shot.

I went out to shoot it to try out time-lapse on my GoPros and Canon DSLRs. I really wanted to see how well the photos, cards, and batteries did on the GoPros. I carried two DSLRs and set up a third to fire every two or three seconds. I knew the Canon 7D, 17-40 F4 and PocketWizard Multimax would deliver.

Here are four shots from the GoPro, all 2 MB captures:

I had the GoPro mounted with a Manfrotto Super Clamp shooting straight up every two seconds. Checking photos as great for unexpected gems! Uncropped and adjusted for contrast.

This is a capture of Hayley Wickenheiser on the cargo nets. I missed her with the camera I was shooting at the mud pit but got two other photos from the remote GoPros. It's great as a back up. Uncropped and adjusted for blacks and contrast.

Not the best action photo but with dust, weeds, sun and dragonfly is tells the story of the weather. 1/1425 second exposure pretty much froze the dragonfly and it was a cool angle. The GoPro was on a small tripod. Cropped and adjusted for contrast, white balance and blacks.

This was the weirdest photo. I have no idea how this happened. He hit the camera (the next frame was straight up.) Still the background is in perfect focus and the shutter was 1/1425 second.

All in all, I was really happy with the photo performance of these cameras. I got angles I would never get with the camera (on course) and it was nice to get photos from different points on the course at the same time. The 2MB photos were fine with a little processing and good for the web. Between the two, I shot over 5000 photos and the 16GB cards were great. The only problem was once you got over the 1000 shot mark. The camera just sat at 999, so you never really knew how many shots you had. The batteries on both lasted all day.
